We Are Doomed Headed to Vita

By Cindy Minguez,
We Are Doomed is a twin-stick shooter in which the player attacks enemies with a high-powered laser. It's purely an arcade game. As Mobeen Vikree of Vertex Pop says in a recent PlayStation Blog, "It’s pure arcade action: no cutscenes, no storyline, no lengthy tutorials."

With the game making the jump to Vita soon, Vikree decided to put together some tips on how to play.

Collect Trinkets, then Superbeam!

Collecting Trinkets (the purple cubes and diamonds) does two things: increments your score multiplier, and fills the Superbeam meter.

The basic strategy is to fill the meter, wait for a screen full of baddies, and then trigger the Superbeam to wipe them all out (at 2x the points, no less).

But here’s the catch: once you fill the meter, you can’t bank any more Superbeams. So the longer you hold off finding the perfect moment to use it, the less potential you have for filling up the meter again. Like everything in life, finding the right balance is essential.

Positioning is key

Playing fast and aggressive is important, but so is staying alive! Always be aware of your position relative to the enemies. The enemies are designed to swarm the player, so watch out!

Learning the enemy tactics will help you better position yourself and prioritise targets. A few specific tips:

Asteroids generally can’t be destroyed, but if you’re in a bind, firing the Superbeam will do the trick.
Blasters (the yellow projectile-firing enemies) are aggressive but largely stationary. As long as you keep track of where they all are, you can delay taking them out and maybe collect a nice looking Trinket instead.
Tadpoles seem harmless, but they dash quickly and multiply in number even faster. Even when it looks safe, keep your distance!
Finally, he says one must practice, practice, practice. This is a skill-based game. One doesn't gain levels, so to get better scores, one must practice to get better skills.

We Are Doomed is headed to the Vita February 9th as a cross-buy title, so if you have the PS4 version, you can nab it for free for your Vita when it arrives.
