New Nuclear Throne Artwork And Details

By MunchMagic1986,
It has been well over a year since Vlambeer last revealed anything about their latest game Nuclear Throne Trophies. Complete with some roguelike elements, such as random generation and permadeath, Nuclear Throne is a tough top-down run and gun that will challenge you to reach the Nuclear Throne although you will most likely fail and see the dreaded words “You did not reach the Nuclear Throne.”

We have previously talked about some of the key points of the game, but Vlambeer has opened up a bit more on some of the mutations that you will encounter along the way. There are currently 30 of these mutations in the game, of which you will only be able to equip four at any given time, which will be selected at random of course. These can give your character a massive boost and help you out while some will make your game even harder.

Scarier Face is a good one to come across, because it lowers the health on every enemy you come across. Impact Wrists — which increases the force your weaponry has on enemies, slinging them further away — works wonders when you’re playing with the mutant Melting, whose active ability allows you to blow up corpses from a distance. Or you might want to avoid Euphoria when you’re playing as Crystal, because her shield ability reflects bullets, and Euphoria slows down all projectiles in the game.
They also went more in-depth with the number of characters and weapons available. Previously, they stated that there were 11 mutants in the game to choose from, which has since increased to 12. Each of these has its own unique passive and active abilities, and the better you get at the game, the more powerful abilities you will have access to. There are also around 125 weapons in the game to play with, some of which are pretty insane. Weapons range from a screwdriver, a machine gun, and a laser gun to a super plasma gun and the insane Golden Nuke launcher.

On top of all the ways your single player experience will change constantly due to the random nature of the game, there are also two other ways to play the game - couch co-op and challenges, daily and weekly.

Vlambeer also released some new artwork for the game, which is quite a huge difference to the in-game pixel art. A little side note here - if you are interested in why they went with a pixel art design, the developer posted a lengthy comment explaining why on the Playstation Blog. You can check that out here.

Nuclear Throne does not yet have a release date, but they did give some word on it:

While Anthony forced a date out of me by withholding milk after eating a habanero pepper, that was a ‘tracking date’ – and we decided we’d rather polish a bit more. We’ll have more news on a release date somewhere in the future, but for now, we’re polishing, optimising and wrapping up.
When they do have an official release, possibly through more withholding of milk, it will launch on all three Playstation systems.

We've got the full list of Nuclear Throne trophies - check the list for guides to unlocking them.
