The word is out — remakes are in. Refacing and remaking past titles for current-gen consoles is a popular trend in this era of gaming and some of the greatest examples for that of late have been the various reboots of the Resident Evil franchise. Capcom has just given the green light to begin work on remaking what is probably the most popular title in the series, Resident Evil 2.
Originally released on the PlayStation console in 1998, Resident Evil 2 is the most successful game in the franchise of all time, and then when it was ported to Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast a short time later, the series' everlasting legacy was sealed by making lifelong fans out of gamers.
Despite its barrier busting and record breaking success at the time, a playback of the game today will leave players feeling like they are forced to survive an outbreak in Polygon City rather than Raccoon City; needless to say, the reboot for this one has been a long time coming. Take a look at the video where Capcom's producer, Yoshiaki Hirabyashi a.k.a. H, announces the upcoming project.
No date or time frame has been established for when Resident Evil 2 will actually be released, but until that information is presented, cross your red and green herbs that we may see a Resident Evil 3 remake in the not-to-distant future as well.
