The Castle Game Announced for PS4

By Alex Frost,
Neptune Interactive revealed their latest game to come to the PlayStation 4 console, The Castle Game. Don't be fooled by the title, or the tower defense genre, because this new title packs a certain unique punch that will give any player, new or old to the genre, a run for their wallets.

From the screenshot above nothing seems different to this type of tower defense game, but The Castle Game employs a lot of unique features. Starting with the field of play, you create your own map and maze in which enemies walk, fight, and die as they make their way to the center of your castle. This is a stark comparison to most titles of this genre where the playing field is already laid out in particular tiles that you can use for your towers. It also holds a strange balance of destroyable objects and enemies; while some enemies will gladly move along the path set for them by your walls and towers, others will grow tired of it and break through anything in their path to keep moving. This is not the little line of ants that we're used to seeing.

The typical allotment of spells, upgrades, and defenses are all there but with the added mechanic of destroyable towers and defenses; you now have an engineer character to repair your buildings should they start to go up in flames. Engineers are not the only character that you have at your disposal, however, as knights, archers, and regular men-at-arms will also be littered throughout your own castle, ready to defend it, and at your command.

With all of this it's easy to miss the announcement about mind-controlling enemies that can capture your ballistas and turn your own weapons against you. With such a bevy of new, unique, and borrowed features, this looks like a good game to watch, generic title aside.

The Castle Game is scheduled to be released on August 4th, 2015 on PlayStation 4.
