Dead Island fans have had it rough over the last few months. After a late April delay set Dead Island 2 back until 2016, the news around the game has grown even grimmer. Deep Silver has announced that they have dropped Yager Studios as the game's development house and are seeking a new studio to inherit the project. Reasons for the delay weren't made clear, but given the delay, some speculate the studio had missed important development milestones, which are always a big sticking point in any contract between developer and publisher.
A representative from Deep Silver delivered the following vague statement:
With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve. After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner Yager. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.
With an unclear timetable, the entire project is now up in the air. The brand name has garnered some acclaim, however, so clearly Deep Silver doesn't want to drop the title completely. Is this the bullet to the head for Dead Island 2?
