You can debate about what it's done to ol' Spyro, the purple dragon from which the franchise was initially a spin-off, but with 250 million figures sold earning over $3billion there's no doubt that the Skylanders franchise has been extremely successful for Activision. With that knowledge, it's no surprise to hear that they've announced a new entry called Skylanders SuperChargers, developed by Vicarious Visions.
Following on from giants, interchangeable components and trapping your enemies, the main aspect in Skylanders SuperChargers is the introduction of vehicles, which Activision promises is an entirely new way to experience the Skylands.
Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision, had this to say about the latest entry to the Skylanders franchise:
We created the toys-to-life category and have continued to lead it by bringing new innovations and new magic to the genre with each and every game. First we brought action figures to life, and now we're bringing vehicles to life with Skylanders SuperChargers. We love making these games because in order to do it well, you have to constantly tap into your inner kid. What kid hasn’t imagined epic vehicles with amazing powers and dreamed about the adventures they could have with them? Skylanders SuperChargers makes those dreams real.
In addition to the 20 new SuperCharger characters and vehicle toys, all previous Skylanders toys (over 300!) will be supported in Skylanders SuperChargers. Extra in-game boosts can be unlocked when a SuperCharger Skylander is combined with its signature vehicle.
Skylanders fans won't have to wait too long for this latest entry either, as Skylanders SuperChargers is currently scheduled to launch on Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 on September 20th in North America, September 24th in New Zealand/Australia and September 25th in Europe.
