Big news for FIFA fans out there, as the largest addition to the franchise in recent history will come this year. EA has announced that they will be bringing Women's National Teams to the pitch when FIFA 16 launches this fall.
Women’s National Teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the United States of America will all represent their respective federations in several FIFA 16 game modes including Kick Off, an Offline Tournament, as well as Online* Friendly Matches
Beauty isn't just skin deep either, as EA states they have attempted to faithfully recreate these 12 of the top-ranked women's teams in the world. New player movements, realistic animations, and player attributes EA Sports fans have come to expect are all present in an effort to give players an authentic experience.
For the animations, four top players from the US Women's National Team assisted with a motion capture session at EA Canada. These captures were used to build the new animations for the female characters in FIFA 16, to include walks, runs, sprints, and lateral moves.
To create the character models, Soccer Canada provided "full-player references captured using the 360 degree body scanning rig", which were then used to develop the models using these base-references. A mobile head-scanning unit trekked around to tournaments and events to capture facial features and hair styles to ensure the teams' players look like their real-life counterparts.
Check out the screenshots and video below for a taste of what's to come for this long-overdue first entry for women's teams into the world of FIFA games.
FIFA 16 is set to launch on September 22nd in North America and September 25th elsewhere on PS3 and PS4. Lace up those cleats, ladies; it's time to take the pitch.
