Darkest Dungeon Coming to PlayStation 4 and Vita

By Peter Stojanov,
The small team out of British Columbia called Red Hook Studios is going to bring a new dungeon-crawling RPG called Darkest Dungeon to the PlayStation 4 and Vita.

Darkest Dungeon

A game that centers around stress levels, Darkest Dungeon features an Affliction System that revolves around what your player character witnesses while playing the game. Throughout the game, if you perform heroic deeds you will cheer up the other characters, or by not helping a fellow adventurer you can cause more stress. Characters will enter what's called an 'Affliction Check' when stress levels get too high, where they can either become empowered or, more likely, succumb to their stress and get an Affliction such as Hopelessness, Masochism, Abusiveness, Irrationality and more. Characters with Afflictions act out on their own beyond the player's control, such as Masochists refusing to be healed when wounded in battle.

Throughout the game you'll even experience little quirks and traits that your characters will develop if certain conduct is performed consistently, such as night vision if wandering around without a torchlight, although another character could develop a fear of the dark. A collection of the right quirks together could either make your character great or scared all of the time.

You also have a home base where you can escape after a long adventure. This can be upgraded with additional buildings like a Guild and Blacksmith; building these help to develop your character further and, not only that, they help to release stress through drinking, gambling, and even praying. Even this could cause more quirks though, including getting banned at the Gambling Hall when your character is a Grave Robber. These facts make the game all the more unpredictable.
