Skullgirls Delisting Update

By Rebecca Smith,
A couple of weeks ago, we revealed that the publishing woes that had plagued Skullgirls since October had finally resulted in the potential delisting of the game from Playstation Network. Autumn Games has released an update on the situation and has clarified most of the details regarding the future of the game.

As you likely already know, Konami had requested that the title be delisted from Playstation Network on December 17th. Autumn Games has since managed to get this deadline extended and the game will now not be removed until December 31st. Without the need for a third-party publisher, Autumn will be publishing the game themselves. However, this new version of the game, called Skullgirls: Encore, will be a different game to the original Skullgirls. There will be new leaderboards and previous save files will NOT be compatible with the new title. There will be a new stackable set of trophies.

All players who have purchased Skullgirls previously will be able to download Skullgirls: Encore for FREE. The old version of the game will also be available for purchasers to redownload from their PSN Downloads list. However, Autumn recommends that everybody upgrades to the new version of the game with the new patch.

Previously purchased DLC will not be compatible with Skullgirls: Encore. So that nobody loses out, and to thank everybody for the inconvenience during this period, the "Skullgirls Character Palette Bundle" DLC will become FREE for everybody for an unspecified but limited amount of time. The promised Squigly DLC will also be available and will be FREE to download for a limited period of three months. Squigly can only be used with Skullgirls: Encore. As well as the original version of the game, the extra colour palettes for each individual character will also disappear. Players will only be able to purchase the "Character Palette Bundle" after December 31st. This bundle unlocks additional colours for all of the game's existing characters, Squigly, and all future DLC characters.

We're not sure exactly when the game will be reappearing, but Autumn is hoping to have the game back on the Playstation Network by the end of January 2014. The game will appear on PSN North America first and should follow shortly after on PSN Rest of the World. Even though the Japanese version of the game is not published by Konami, this version will also be delisted and replaced with Skullgirls: Encore. Again, the transition on PSN Japan is likely to take longer than that on PSN North America. Autumn is working diligently to reduce the time difference between the reappearance of the game in the different regions. When we know more, we'll let you know.
