PS Plus Extra subscribers are rushing to pick up Need for Speed Unbound trophies, according to our chart of the top 40 most popular PS5 games from last week. Elsewhere, Foamstars has dropped right off the chart and Helldivers 2 supersedes EA Sports FC 24 as more and more players realize that it's one of the best PS5 multiplayer games on the console to date.

PS Plus Extra games for February 2024 make the top 40

First off, let's take a look at some of the new PlayStation Plus February 2024 Extra and Premium games, most of which have failed to really land in the top 40. However, it is a hectic month for popular games, what with Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, Skull and Bones, and Granblue Fantasy Relink all still clinging to the most popular PS5 games list.
Breaking through the last wave of popular new 2024 games is Need for Speed Unbound, which scored the most new players out of all the Extra games this month. Assassin's Creed Valhalla also saw a strong performance, although seeing as more players have already experienced its length before, we shouldn't be too surprised to see it getting less love than Need for Speed. There's also The Outer Worlds pulling in just about the cut-off line in 39th place.

Further up the charts, we can see the continuation of Helldivers 2's PS5 player count rise, which defies all expectations by growing for a third week in a row. The game is now the third most popular on PS5 and seems to be fairly biting into the player count of Call of Duty at this point. Can it topple the free-to-play giants in first and second place? It seems unlikely, but let's be thankful it has done this well in the first place.
Elsewhere, let's take a moment to pour one out for Foamstars. The day-one PS Plus game's PS5 and PS4 player count drop has continued to the point where it no longer charts in the Top 40. That's quite the drop-off after the game initially launched in the top 10!

Finally, let's give a quick nod to the games that are seeing more players as a result of the news: Elden Ring and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. That Elden Ring DLC trailer dropped, seemingly reminding players that they should actually try and finish the base game someday.
Meanwhile, the launch of our Final Fantasy VII Rebirth first impressions (and the reviews on other sites) has even more players trying to get ahead of the story before the PS5 exclusive launches Thursday, February 29, 2024.

So, without further ado (I really ought to get back to my Elden Ring playthrough ASAP), here are the top 40 most popular PS5 games for the week ending Sunday, February 25, 2024.

Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.2 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
