An insatiable appetite for Foamstars trophies has taken PS5 and PS4 players by storm as the PS Plus monthly game for February 2024 skyrockets to the top 10 of the most popular PS5 games chart. We've also got Helldivers II making a strong impression and the perpetual rise of Final Fantasy VII Remake to contend with this week in the Top 40.

Foamstars scores big day-one PS Plus Essential debut

By far the biggest debut this week was Foamstars which launched day-one as one of the PlayStation Plus February 2024 monthly games. It seems despite Foamstars launching with no platinum trophy on PS5 or PS4, players were determined to check out this weird Square Enix take on Splatoon.
So popular was Foamstars launch that it even outstripped Sony's own effort this week on PS5 and PS4: Helldivers II. Granted, that's no slight against Helldivers — in fact, it's remarkable how well the PlayStation Studios shooter has done.

After all, Foamstars was given away for free on PS Plus and was accessible on two consoles while Helldivers II was a premium release for PS5 (we don't track PC data). For Helldivers to come within three spots of Foamstars is a sign of how truly popular the shooter is.
Elsewhere, we're continuing to see the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth-induced player count rise for FFVII Remake, which has now gone so far as to allow FFVII Remake to jump 15 spots in a single week. This was almost certainly to do with the release of that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo and its excellent climbing mechanics last week.

Finally, a few more interesting details from this week's chart:
  • PS Plus games Rollerdrome and Steelrising made the bottom-half of the Top 40
  • Sega's Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth has dipped four spots, but Persona 3 Reload continued to climb
  • Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League failed to climb any higher in week two

Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.2 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
