God of War Ragnarok is sat at the top of the best PS5 games for a reason, and this week's top 40 most popular PS5 games prove it's right to be there! Using data pulled from 3.2 million tracked PSN accounts, that free Valhalla DLC has given Kratos & Co a boost up the popularity chart.

God of War Ragnarok's new free DLC is immensely popular

When the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla announced, we had no idea what to expect even with all the details. Well, with a 372.8% increase in player count week-on-week, we're wondering if everyone you know and love knows what God of War Ragnarok Valhalla is all about. The rogue-lite experience is a bit of an epilogue to Ragnarok — a damn good one at that — so download it for free and have a go yourself!
In other chart news, there isn't too much to shout about. PowerWash Simulator is still performing in sixth, but the two other PlayStation Plus December 2023 monthly games have all sunk like a stone as Lego 2K Drive is down 10 places to 20th and Sable hasn't even made it to the chart. Alan Wake 2 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare (the 2019 one) did return the chart this week, as well.

If you want more fun data, Lee has a piece all about the PS Plus monthly games 2023's total value. What do you think of all the data we've pulled out for you? Are you surprised by God of War Ragnarok Valhalla? Let us know all in the comments down below. So, here they are fully listed! The top 40 most popular PS5 games for the week ending Sunday, December 17, 2023.

Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.2 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
  • When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
  • Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
