We've taken a sample of 3.2 million PSN accounts and put together a chart of the top 40 most popular PS5 games. Just to be clear, these aren't just the best PS5 games, but the ones everyone playing. This week, that is definitively not Alan Wake 2 as it slides down the chart of PS5 and PS4 titles.

Alan Wake 2 suffers in most popular PS5 games chart

Before we dive into the title story, I just want to take a look at Marvel's Spider-Man 2 which wraps up the week as the fourth most popular game on PS5. It's been dropping in total player count for three weeks, slowly being overtaken by the giant live-service(ish) games like Fortnite, Call Of Duty, and EA Sports FC 24.
While Spidey is still swinging on a downward trend with 17.8% decrease in total player count week-on-week, it will hold GTA V for at least one more week at the current rate of player count decrease. It remains an incredibly popular game and has more than achieved its goal, any success from here is just a bonus!

Now, Alan Wake 2, a game we've put in second position on the best horror games list. The sequel has dropped 12 places in a week, leaving it in 37th place and nearly off of the chart. Having dropped 21% of its total players from last week, the game might be critically acclaimed, but it is shedding players very quickly. Obviously being single-player has a role — the game is finite and when players are done, they are done. However, that's not stopped other single-player games from outperforming it this winter like Assassin's Creed Mirage.

Finally, I just want to bring up Teardown again. The PS Plus November 2023 day one game has dropped two places, but it is clearly still on the mind of some players as it remains in the top half of the chart. Meanwhile, the additions around it remain absent from the top 40. That suggests that this was a weaker month for PS Plus Extra and Premium.
Lee wrote a great data piece on PS Plus Extra's day one titles and the Game Pass method if you want more lovely numbers. That wraps up the analysis for the week! What do you think of Alan Wake 2's fall? Let us know in the comments and we will see you there. Here are the most popular PS5 games for the week ending Sunday, November 26, 2023.

Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.2 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
  • When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
  • Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
