This should allow more time for these games to bake and succeed.Sean Lawson Published 09 Nov 2023 FollowtopicsPlayStation 4PlayStation 5Sean Lawson With the recent news that The Last of Us multiplayer PS5 game is still in development, it seems Sony is being a bit more realistic when it comes to its ambitious live service plan. Sony has Sony delayed six PS5 live-service games that it was hoping to release alongside another six live-service titles by March 2026. Check out our best PS5 games guide for some stellar PlayStation titles.Sony delays six of its 12 PS5 live service gamesAs reported by VGC, during an earnings call Sony president Hiroki Totoki confirmed that delays would be impacting a number of the upcoming live-service titles that are in the pipeline. These delays will hopefully allow the games to flourish and receive that extra bit of love that is needed, rather than being pushed out in a half-finished state.“We are reviewing this, we are trying as much as possible to ensure [these games] are enjoyed and liked by gamers for a long time. [Of] the 12 titles, six titles will be released by FY25 – that’s our current plan. The remaining six titles, we are still working on that.“That’s the total number of live-service and multiplayer titles [and] mid-to-long-term we want to [push] this kind of service and that’s the unchanged policy of the company. It’s not like we stick to certain titles, but game quality should be the most important.”Marathon is just one of Sony's live service titles in the worksAs it currently stands, we know about six of the 12 live-service titles Sony plans to release: The Last of Us Factions, Concord, Fairgames, Marathon, a Horizon multiplayer game, and Studio London's fantasy game. That said, of those six known titles, we only know for certain that a Marathon delay has happened, and most likely a The Last of Us Factions delay. The other delayed games remain unknown. While I do not care for live-service titles, I think it's commendable that Sony is acknowledging that its original plan was way too ambitious. Instead of shoving all of these live service titles down our throats, I think Sony has more chance of hitting a home run with at least one of these titles by spacing them out a little and putting that extra bit of love into them. However, I am fed up with the whole live service agenda now and much prefer my solo-player experiences with strong narratives and excellent gameplay. What do you guys make of this?
