Players are grabbing Assassin's Creed Mirage trophies en masse right now! The latest Assassin's Creed Mirage player count points to the game triggering a five-game resurgence for the series, including my pick for the best Assassin's Creed game out there.
AC Mirage helps five other Assassin's Creed games to 10% boost in popularityEvery week we write up the PlayStation Chart that is driven by a sample of 3.2 million active PSN players (courtesy of our partnership with GameInsights). It lists the top 200 games of the week not by sales data, but by how popular they were that week. That gives us a really good insight into player habits around the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage, Ubisoft's latest entry into the series, and one that is returning to the series' roots. For players, many have returned to five other games in the series listed below.
These numbers are the total percentages of player count growth in old Assassin's Creed games from the release of AC Mirage on Monday, October 2, 2023, until the two-week point in our data collection on Monday, October 16, 2023. The following five games managed to get into the top 200 most popular PS5 and PS4 games.
It's worth noting that Unity was only popular enough to make the top 200 the week ending Monday, October 16, 2023 — a full week after Mirage's launch. Similarly, Black Flag — my personal favorite AC game — joined the top 200 for the week ending Monday, October 9, 2023, the week Mirage launched. This detail means this is the minimum possible percentage, but in reality, the player counts probably increased the total player count more significantly.
Increased popularity of Assassin's Creed games since AC Mirage launched
|Total player count growth
|Assassin's Creed Origins
|Assassin's Creed Odyssey
|Assassin's Creed Unity
|Assassin's Creed Valhalla
|Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag
|Average Overall Increase
Our data is limited to the top 200 most popular PS5 and PS4 games, which means that for the weeks prior to Unity and Black Flag joining the chart, we have to rely on the lowest figure available on the chart to produce these statistics. What this suggests is that both Unity and Black Flag actually accumulated even more players around the launch of Mirage than the minimum our data suggests.
In Unity's case, it only made the top 200 for one week — from October 9, 2023, until October 16, 2023 — that specifically suggests that Assassin's Creed Mirage's launch triggered enough players to go back to Unity. Something in Paris and Arno's story really caught players' attention, clearly — could it be its incredible parkour and dense cityscape? It's fascinating that players chose Unity over Syndicate, the more recent game with the same Assassin's Creed city-style format.
If those are the numbers for the previous games in the series, then for context it's worth noting that Assassin's Creed Mirage itself has 8.69% more players from week to week in that period. There seems to be a lot of word of mouth about Assassin's Creed Mirage where initially skeptical players have started picking up the game to try it out. The total number of players is demonstrably higher than all the other old games, so player growth is obviously harder to come by.
The average total player increase across the series is 18.66% since the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage. This sudden increased interest across so many old games in the series is very rare for any series. It speaks to the legacy of Asassin's Creed and the quality of the series over time, but also just how accessible every game is through PS Plus Extra and just through PS4 backward compatibility.
It's particularly unique to Assassin's Creed because players can jump into in anthological style and just pick out the games that they enjoy, or games that they think they might get the same hit from as AC Mirage. They clearly don't feel that they needn't pick it up again once the game is done.

Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.2 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
- Popularity is measured by a game being booted up and played, not by the length of time played.
- Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
