Update: We now have confirmation that the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Version trophies will finally deliver a Metal Gear Solid platinum trophy at long last. Fans of PS1 games with trophies can start gunning for the platinum trophy on PS5 and PS4 once the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 launches on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 — check out what's in store with the full Metal Gear Solid trophy list below.

Metal Gear Solid PS5 platinum requires two playthroughs

Metal Gear Solid 1 will hit PS5 and PS4 with a relatively concise trophy list — just 19 trophies to earn, including the platinum. However, to take home the platinum you're going to have to absolutely master this PS1 classic and play through the entire campaign at least twice. If you've already earned a few platinum trophies in the Metal Gear Solid series, this should be a breeze. On the other hand, newcomers might find it all a little daunting.
There are two tricky trophies here: 'Dress For the Job' and 'Elite.' To unlock 'Dress For the Job,' first you'll have to unlock Snake's Bandana in your first playthrough — done by enduring Ocelot's torture. Then, on your second playthrough, if you submit to Ocelot's torture, you'll unlock Otacon's Stealth Camo and unlock the trophy. The torture scene happens about two-thirds of the way through the story, so it can be quite a trek.

As for 'Elite,' this trophy asks you to clear the game with a 'Fox' or 'Big Boss' ranking — the top rank for hard mode and extreme mode, respectively. To get the top rank in any run, you'll need to beat Metal Gear Solid with less than five alerts, less than 25 kills, a total of one maximum ration use, zero continues, less than 80 game saves, and all under three hours of play time. Needless to say, it can be brutal — although, if you have the Bandana and Stealth Camo unlocked on your third playthrough, that can make things easier.

MGSMake or break.

Looking over the game's 11 hidden trophies, there's nothing too daunting to worry about — 10 will unlock automatically while completing the story, and the other one relates to an iconic Easter egg. Here's a hint: don't forget to use your camera. The rest are pretty straight forward — see the full list below!

Well, there you have it — some pretty tough trophies to ring in one of the best PlayStation games ever made. Will you be gunning for Metal Gear Solid's platinum trophy on PS5 and PS4? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below.
Original Story: While it has yet to be 100% confirmed, it seems like the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 trophies will be made up of several separate platinum trophy lists — one for each of the three major Metal Gear Solid games included in the collection. This could be great news for players who love to collect trophies in PS1 classic games, because it certainly sounds like the iconic PS1 game Metal Gear Solid will get a platinum trophy all of its own.

MGS1 platinum trophy coming to PS5 in 2023

The Metal Gear Solid platinum trophy news comes via a preview of the upcoming Master Collection on the PlayStation Blog: "Metal Gear Solid will include Trophy support (including a Platinum trophy), as well as allowing you to select from multiple language versions (each housing its own separate save state). There’s a new top-level, Collection-specific menu."
This will mark the first time we've ever been able to earn trophies while playing the original Metal Gear Solid — something we know many fans have craved in the comments here for a while now. You will be able to start collecting Metal Gear Solid 1 trophies this Tuesday, October 24, 2023 when the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 launches for PS5. The blog post also confirmed that a PS4 version of the Master Collection was in the works, although no release date for that port was announced.

The blog post also suggests that we will also receive another round of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 trophies on PS5 and PS4. Apparently, these ports will be: "the HD versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, last seen in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection released over a decade ago." Both games featured individual trophy lists for the PS3 and PS Vita as part of the HD Collection release, so it seems very likely the same trophy lists will soon be making the jump to PS5 and PS4.
Now if only the Master Collection would get announced for PS Plus so we could throw Metal Gear Solid in the growing list of PS1, PS2, and PSP games on PS Plus with trophy support. Will you be gunning for that Metal Gear Solid 1 platinum trophy later this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
