Update: Great news! A little over 24 hours later, the Ratatan PS5 port has been secured by the game's generous crowdsourced backers. For this game to join the upcoming PS5 indie games list and carry on the legacy of those Patapon 2 Remastered trophies, the developers needed to secure 75 million yen via Kickstarter. Now, as of Wednesday, August 2, 2023, they've done just that!

Looks like the game does have a shot at joining our best PS5 games list after all. No pending release date has been announced for the title, but when it finally comes to PS5, will you be checking it out? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and read the original story below to learn more about this exciting follow-up to the Patapon series!
Original Story: There's only one thing better than PS1, PS2, and PSP games on PS Plus getting trophy support — brand new modern spiritual successors to those games. If you've enjoyed collecting Patapon Remastered trophies in the past, then hopefully you'll love collecting trophies in its spiritual successor Ratatan — provided the Ratatan PS5 port gets funded soon.

Patapon successor Ratatan goes into full development

Coming from many of the key staff that originally helped make Patapon such a success on the PSP, Ratatan looks to continue the series' beat-based rhythm-strategy mash-up for PC and, hopefully, modern consoles like the PS5. The game has secured its initial development goal of 20 million yen via crowdfunding platform Kickstarter in under an hour, showing just how many gamers are eager to see the Patapon series live on in some shape or form.
However, to secure a PS5 port for Ratatan, developer Ratata Arts will require funding to reach the game's third stretch goal of 75 million yen, which at the time of writing has not yet been reached. That said, Ratatan seems well on its way to securing that PS5 port, as the game reached its second Kickstarter stretch goal of 50 million yen within 24 hours of going live. That means that not only is demand for the game very high, but it also means online multiplayer will come to Ratatan — a feature that formed the core of the final Patapon game, Patapon 3.

Here's hoping Ratatan can secure that PS5 port in time — the Kickstarter campaign ends Friday, September 1, 2023, so odds seem very likely that it will, but you never know. Are you excited about this Patapon spiritual successor? To me, it certainly seems like a shoo-in for the best indie games on PlayStation list if it does secure that PS5 port. Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below.
