We love some of the PlayStation Indies at BitSummit 2023, so much so that some of the games pop up on our most anticipated PlayStation Indies list! Under the guidance of PlayStation Indies boss Shuhei Yoshida, the games participating in the latest Japan-based event will be praying for an eventual spot on the best indies on PS5.

PS5 indies step up in BitSummit 2023

Sony has sponsored a PlayStation booth at BitSummit 2023, an indie games event being held in Kyoto, Japan from Friday, July 14, 2023, to Sunday, July 16, 2023 (as revealed on PlayStation Blog). Now, the team at the SIE Indies Initiative is leading the charge on 12 of these smaller-scale games as led by legendary PlayStation figurehead Shuhei Yoshida. Present will be some of the coolest-looking upcoming indie games for PS5 and PS4.

A lot of these look like really cool games that really help fill out the PS5's catalog of interesting and unique games. I'm particularly keen on Viewfinder for PS5, which sees you take pictures of the world, then put the image back into the world to help you solve puzzles. Check out the trailer above, it looks fabulous. Something like PixelJunk Eden 2 also looks awesome and arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2020, so I'm happy to see Q Games bringing it back to PlayStation alongside another game in the series with the PixelJunk Scrappers PS5 release.

Elsewhere on the list, it'd be remiss of me not to mention Staff Writer Sean's love of the upcoming PS4 game Eternights. He just loves himself an anime game, especially one with so much drama in the trailer! In the meantime, I'll keep an eye on the ever-productive Inti Creates and see what is going on with Genji no Yohane -BLAZE in the DEEPBLUE-. The team there just makes great 2D action platformers and shows no signs of slowing down.

Seriously, this slate of indie games looks fantastic for PS5's future. Sure, everyone looks at the best PS5 game of 2023 so far as the AAA stuff, but the independently made games are always a fun way to find cool experimental game-making! What do you think of the lineup? Do you think it shows as much promise as I think it does? Let me know in the comments!
