The Elder Scrolls 6 for PS5 looks more and more like a fantasy

By Sean Lawson,

Given Microsoft's recent track record, things aren't looking positive for a PS5 or PS6 release of The Elder Scrolls 6.

We may be stuck with The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim trophies for the foreseeable if Microsoft has its way. While it may be a while until we hear any further news on The Elder Scrolls 6, one thing that is becoming increasingly likely is that Microsoft may stop The Elder Scrolls 6 from ever releasing on PS5 or PS6. Thankfully, Skyrim is one of the best PlayStation games around.

Microsoft may block The Elder Scrolls 6 from releasing onto PlayStation

Phil Spencer has dropped some interesting information regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 during the second day of the ongoing FTCs Microsoft Activision court case. Lawyers asked Spencer if Microsoft still plans to release The Elder Scrolls 6 as an Xbox-exclusive title. Spencer attempted to tiptoe around the subject by saying: "It’s so far out it’s hard to understand what the platforms will even be. We’re talking about a game that’s five-plus years away."

The Lawyers then pulled out one of Spencer's previous statements that discussed The Elder Scrolls 6 being an Xbox-exclusive title and seemingly countered this response from Spencer. Without much else to say, Spencer responded with: "I have made public statements that Elder Scrolls 6 will be exclusive to Xbox and PC" (thanks, Stephen Totilo and AmericanTruckSongs9).

Spencer's first statement isn't incorrect here and is hard to argue with. However, there is no denying that it is a response lacking any form of a concrete answer. Most are speculating that his adversity to answering directly probably means PS5 and PS6 owners shouldn't be too excited.
If we pick apart Microsoft's recent release shenanigans, we learned that Redfall was also supposed to release on PS5 consoles; however, Microsoft stepped in and pulled the plug on a PlayStation release. A Redfall PS5 release isn't the only thing Microsoft stopped, as it was also uncovered that the Bethesda Indiana Jones game has also been blocked from coming to PS5 consoles by Microsoft.

Now, there are murmurings of Microsoft stepping in and stopping Bethesda from releasing Starfield on PlayStation consoles as well. So, things are not looking good in regards to The Elder Scrolls 6, especially with Spencer's wishy-washy response during the FTC court case.

What do you make of this whole ordeal? Surprised by Microsoft? Disappointed that many of these titles haven't landed on PS5? Are you tired of the Activision Blizzard merger shenanigans? Let us know in the comments below!
