Metal Gear Solid 4 may finally escape PS3 after tiny detail spotted By Kes Eylers-Stephenson, 22 Jun 2023 FollowtopicsMetal Gear Solid 4Konami Digital EntertainmentPlayStation ExclusivePlayStation 5Kes Eylers-Stephenson Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots might actually manage to escape the PS3 for PS5 freedom after a tiny detail was spotted on the MGS series timeline.Metal Gear Solid 4 trophies are a proud token that only PS3 owners ever had. At least, we thought so until a tiny detail on the Metal Gear Solid timeline suggested the PS5 might be beckoning for one of the best PS3 games.Metal Gear Solid 4 — PS5 possible?Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS5 — could it be true? With the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 release date comes preorders and, in turn, comes genuinely tasty information from Twitter user Nitroid. In short, while looking at the Metal Gear Solid timeline for the collection (visible below), inspecting the page gives placeholder buttons for Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid 5. As Nitroid outlines, on its own this means little other than context for players intending to pick up the games. However, as Nitroid goes on to say "the addition of a 'History' section coincides with the Nintendo Direct announcement." The complex method by which Konami changed an old image also suggests that "new pages for these games are forthcoming" and pages two which the new buttons would link are new pages that advertise the Vol. 1 collection, not the existing and active product images. Finally, Nitroid notes the simple fact that "the only canonical games missing from the Master Collection are ones with inactive buttons."Metal Gear Solid timelineIn short, what we are possibly looking at is an old timeline image with a re-jigged framework for Vol. 1, but with all the right holes for Vol. 2 to slot in. While Metal Gear Solid 5 is on PS4, Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots and (i]Peace Walker's HD remaster have long been stuck on PS3. As many know, the unique CELL architecture of the PS3 is totally distinct from Xbox and PC architecture from that generation, making it a pain to get old games working on newer hardware. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker never escaped, but it could be that Konami has done the work to make it happen for a Vol. 2 collection. What do you think of that possibility?
