Huge Cyberpunk 2077 update won't be locked behind Phantom Liberty DLC

By Sean Lawson,

Cyberpunk 2077 will overhaul its gameplay to coincide with the Phantom Liberty DLC. Excitingly, this update will be available to everyone who owns the game.

While you finish cleaning up those Cyberpunk 2077 trophies, the release of the Phantom Liberty DLC draws ever closer. CDPR has announced that alongside the upcoming PS4 and PS5 DLC, there will be a huge update that overhauls the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077. We can't wait to dive back into one of the best PS5 games around.

Cyberpunk 2077 will allow all PS4, PS5 owners to access new update

Well-known gaming Youtuber and Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty voice actress The Sphere Hunter recently took to Twitter to divulge some interesting tidbits about the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. Namely, she confirmed that the entire gameplay overhaul of the base game will be available to everyone, even if they don't buy expand the game when the Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC release date rolls around.

There also appears to be a plethora of new content for us to get to grips with, all of which makes Cyberpunk 2077 look and feel like an entirely different game. For example, clothing no longer offers stats —instead, stat increases come from cyberware. Leveling up is now skill-based and will see you unlocking new abilities and attacks instead of just small stat increases. Melee combat has been completely reworked for a more punchy (pun intended) experience. The Sphere Hunter also detailed other changes coming to the game that all sound equally enthralling as well.
"So I got to play a lot of Phantom Liberty and my ultimate takeaway is that in the past three years, CDPR has essentially remade the entire game. Every single fundamental and mechanic is improved. Like even the character models have been remodeled.

"Leveling is now skill-based so you’re unlocking new attacks and abilities not just getting small stat increases. Clothes no longer give you stats or armor, (unless it is literally armor) stats come from your cyberware which places greater emphasis on customization.

"The police system is everything you wanted, MAX TAC come in via drop ship. Police and Gangs now chase each other and you. Leveling cyberware on a new skill tree unlocks special abilities like overdriving your gorilla arm punch smacking enemies into the stratosphere.

Cyberpunk 2077Cyberpunk 2077 has had a huge turn around in reception from gamers!

"AI is vastly improved, they block and hide behind cover... All of these changes are also coming in the base game, it’s not just in the expansion. The entire game has been redone with this stuff."

So, there you have it, that's a lot of information to take in, and from what The Sphere Hunter says there is even more content that has been patched up that they haven't listed. We can't wait to see how Cyberpunk 2077 looks once Phantom Liberty releases on PS5 Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Are you excited? Will you be the DLC when it drops?
