Diablo 4 submits GTA V to lowest popularity on PS5 chart since launch

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

Diablo 4 is massive and now we have empirical evidence as it submits GTA V to it's PS5 popularity on the PlayStation Chart.

Everyone seems to be collecting Diablo IV trophies right now, but it's not just in your imagination. Indeed, Blizzard's latest action RPG is more popular than even GTA V this week on PS5 and PS4 — its place on the best PS5 games list seems inevitable!

GTA 5 overtaken by Diablo 4GTA 5 overtaken by Diablo 4

The big story this week is Diablo 4 coming and swiping all the Grand Theft Auto V trophies from Rockstar. The action RPG is in fourth place (up four from last week), while GTA V has slid from fourth down to sixth. Interestingly, this is the lowest position for GTA V since the launch of the PS5 version, showing just how hard it is to move the game at all

Its position lower in the table is cemented by NBA 2K23 which has risen from ninth to fifth in a week. How? We all know the answer — the PS Plus games for June 2023. That is a huge rise for the franchise, particularly given our slightly EU-skewed data where basketball is less popular than in the US.

The other two PS Plus games, Trek to Yomi and Jurassic World Evolution 2, have finished in 18th and 15th, respectively. That makes it a slightly weaker month for the games on PS Plus even if the fifth-place finish of the basketball title is keeping everything afloat. The rest of the chart is slightly uneventful, barring the continuing rise of Marvel's Spider-Man games. You can find out why in Lee's special piece on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 player increase article.

Here are the top 40 most popular PS5 and PS4 games for the week in the PlayStation Chart, with data collection ending Sunday, June 11, 2023.
