By Lee Brady,

Marvel's Spider-Man 2's recent trailer has sparked a huge surge in Miles Morales and Spider-Man Remastered players.

Fans have long been craving the release of those Marvel's Spider-Man 2 trophies, but new data suggests there's been a more tangible rise in anticipation as Insomniac's Spider-Man games see 50% more PS5 and PS4 players following the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer. That's according to our exclusive gameplay data from over 2.9 million active PSN accounts, suggesting keen player interest in what might be one of the best PS5 games so far.

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales see big player count boost on PS5

Savvy followers of our player data-driven Top 40 PlayStation Chart will have spied the rise in players hunting down Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales trophies as of late. Back on Monday, May 22, 2023, the original game was clinging to the chart in 40th place, while Miles Morales landed off-chart at 42nd place. Then, within just two weeks (Monday, June 5, 2023), Marvel's Spider-Man had climbed to 25th place, while Miles Morales rocketed up to 15th.

Between that two-week span, there has been an overall 51.51% player increase across the entire Marvel's Spider-Man franchise on PlayStation — largely thanks to a chain of events that kicks off with the reveal of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's gameplay trailer at the PlayStation Showcase 2023 on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. That week (ending Monday, May 29, 2023) saw a 37.26% rise in Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales players and a 28.92% climb for Marvel's Spider-Man.

Note: For Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales figures, we have combined the active player count from both the PS5 and PS4 versions of the game. Meanwhile, for Marvel's Spider-Man, we have combined the player count across all editions of the original PS4 game and the standalone PS5 Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered. For a better idea of the divide between PS5 and PS4 players per game, the split is roughly 2:1 in favor of PS5 players for Miles Morales, and nearly 1:1 for the original game.
The next week would see another 32.66% boost for Spider-Man Miles Morales and a 20.65% boost for Marvel's Spider-Man (ending Monday, June 5, 2023), though from this week on we should be wary about giving too much credit to Marvel's Spider-Man 2. After all, Friday, June 2, 2023 was a big day for the Spider-Man franchise: both the launch of a theatrical Spider-Man animated movie and the day Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales joined the Days of Play 2023 sale on the PS Store.

Seeing as both games continued to gain players, rather than just Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales in the wake of the new movie and sale, we're certain Marvel's Spider-Man 2 hype continued to play its part — just perhaps a little less so than the week before. In total, Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales' player count climbed 57.75% over the two-week span while Marvel's Spider-Man climbed 56.40%.

Spider-Man 2Here's hoping these Spider fellows get the success they deserve.

Will players continue to flock to Insomniac's Spider-Man games following the release date reveal of Marvel's Spider-Man 2? Well, we're sure the movie will still play its part, but let us know your thoughts and feelings on the matter down in the comments below.
