Assassin's Creed Nexus skips PS VR2 announcement ahead of full reveal

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

Assassin's Creed Nexus is Ubisoft's leap of faith into the VR space, but it looks like it might miss PS VR2 based on the announcement.

Of all of the upcoming Assassin's Creed games, Assassin's Creed Nexus is one that has long been rumored to be a VR game for the series. However, with Ubisoft not mentioning PS VR2 in the Assassin's Creed Nexus announcement teaser, could it be that Sony's new PS5 accessory doesn't get it at all? It would be a blow not to be able to rank it on the best Assassin's Creed games list!

Ubisoft doesn't mention PS VR2 in Nexus announcement

Assassin's Creed Nexus, as far as we know, was originally a game that stemmed from a deal with Meta (Facebook) that would bring an Assassin's Creed VR game to the Meta Quest VR units before that deal was allegedly scrapped. That lineage is made clear in the latest Ubisoft teaser, which states "Assassin's Creed Nexus VR is coming to Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3 later this year. Full reveal at Ubisoft Forward on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 10am PT."

In short, it sounds like — despite a supposed scrapped deal between Meta and Ubisoft for Assassin's Creed Nexus VR — PS VR2 isn't being considered by Ubisoft. All could change at the Ubisoft Forward event when we get a full reveal, but for the moment it seems like Sony's PS VR2 device for PS5 is simply left without any big support from any major developer or publisher. Even at PlayStation Showcase 2023, it looked like the lineup was incredibly limited with only Synapse really impressing (having already been revealed).

acvrOdin is right over there guys, I swear.

It looks like Nexus VR's sequel has already been greenlit by Ubisoft, so it's possible Assassin's Creed does have a future on PS VR2. Again, there could be a hint about PS VR2 at the Ubisoft Forward, but we would warn you not to hold your breath for it. Do you think PS VR2 is set to die?
