GTA 6 seems imminent for PS5 in pipeline of "groundbreaking titles"

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

Grand Theft Auto 6, or GTA 6, might actually be arriving in 2024 on PS5 after publisher Take-Two boasted of a "groundbreaking" lineup.

Given everyone and their violent grandmother has collected a few of the Grand Theft Auto V trophies — on PS3, PS4, and PS5, no less — Take-Two seems to finally think it might actually be time to release GTA between April 2024 and March 2025. Given the last entry is on our best PlayStation games list, we sure hope this next Rockstar game lives up to expectations!

GTA 6 headlines potential role in "several groundbreaking titles"

Take-Two's financials have proven rather interesting as a press release accompanied by its projections for the coming years. Ending its current fiscal year on Sunday, March 31, 2024, the company expects net bookings of about $5.45 to $5.55 billion, or a $0.27 billion increase from the previous quarter at most. For the 2024-25 fiscal year (April 2024 to March 2025), however, Take-Two expects net bookings to surpass $8 billion; an increase of $2.5 billion. This is an exponential year-on-year growth — which Take-Two anticipates will be beaten by 2026's net booking revenue, by the way — that could surely only account for one thing: Grand Theft Auto 6.

"For the last several years, we have been preparing our business to release an incredibly robust pipeline of projects that we believe will take our company to even greater levels of success," says the accompanying press release posted to IGN. "In Fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several groundbreaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in Net Bookings and over $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow. We expect to sustain this momentum by delivering even higher levels of operating results in Fiscal 2026 and beyond."

GamesIndustry.biz has the lowdown from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who refused to confirm GTA 6 would be the only thing that could account for such a steep rise in profits. "As you know, it’s exceedingly rare that we talk about our years. And when we do, it’s because we have a high degree of confidence.

"It’s a reflection of a pipeline we’ve been investing in for years. We’re beginning to see that come to fruition in fiscal 24, and then in fiscal 25, we expect to see some great successes," Zelnick concluded. Again, this level of confidence just seems to confirm that the company knows it has an incredible payday coming, and the only thing that could account for that profit margin outside of GTA 6 would be banger after banger from Take-Two. Either way, that works for us... but let's be honest — it's probably GTA 6.
