One boy from PlayStation Studios is very inspired by God of War dev

PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst has given us a positive update on Santa Monica Studio after its massive God of War Ragnarok success.

The head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, is on one of his regular whirlwind tours of all of Sony's first-party teams. Now, Hulst has visited developer Studio San Diego of God of War fame and come away inspired — hopefully, he has renewed energy to collect those God of War Ragnarok trophies!

What new game could the God of War team be working on next?

Much like a certain young boy Atreus finally escaped from home and on an adventure through the Norse realms, PS Studios' own Hermen Hulst has tweeted about his travels to his developers. "Thanks for having me Sony Santa Monica. Totally inspired by everything I saw today." Accompanying the tweet is an image of Kratos and Atreus from God of War, as well as a separate one of the staff-related wall art featuring fan-favorite character art.

While this boy hasn't given us much in terms of exact information, that he is 'inspired' is particularly interesting given that Sony is currently reviewing its projects leading to the closure of PlayStation Studio PixelOpus and the possible cancelation of a live-service game from Deviation. Clearly, he has seen something fresh from the team and, while that could be the next God of War game from a developer that would be more than happy to make more of Kratos and Atreus' adventures, we are kind of hoping that it might be something new.

God of War (2018) director Cory Barlog is still at Santa Monica Studio and didn't direct God of War Ragnarok — the rumors were that he was working on a now-canceled sci-fi game. It seems very possible that his team has transitioned into working on something new entirely. We hope so, particularly as Sony seems to be slowly letting teams like Naughty Dog help incubate new teams like PSS Visual Arts for a rumored new Uncharted. We will see, but PlayStation's trust is clearly with Santa Monica Studio right now!

What do you think of the news? Do you think Santa Monica will go back to more God of War? Let us know in the comments below!
