Here’s how many are playing last month’s PS Plus games in May By Kes Eylers-Stephenson, 13 May 2023 FollowtopicsPlayStation PlusKes Eylers-Stephenson PS Plus monthly games for April 2023 featured three games including Sackboy A Big Adventure, but how many subscribers were still playing in May?The PS Plus monthly games for May 2023 are now live and ready to play, but it's good to look back and ask: "how many PS5 and PS4 users are still playing April 2023's PS Plus monthly games in May?" Using three million players to gather data — as powered by our unique PlayStation Chart available every week that calculates how many active players a game has — we have a guide to just how many players stuck with PS Plus Essential games.PS Plus games — a look back at April's player numbersSackboy A Big AdventureThe surprise package of the month! Players collected Sackboy A Big Adventure trophies en masse in the first week. In our PlayStation Chart for the week starting Monday, April 10th, 2023 the platformer had gathered enough players to boost it to 9th place of the top 200 games — a list it hadn't featured in the previous week making this an incomparable rise in total player count. Now, for the PlayStation Chart ending the week of Sunday, May 7th, 2023, Sackboy A Big Adventure is in 24th position on the chart retaining 47.5% of players since it first arrived on PS Plus Essential on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023. That is massive player retention. However, it was also featured in April's PS Plus Extra games lineup which will have given it a boost that the other games haven't had. That being said, it won't have been massive given PS Plus Extra users are entitled to PS Plus Essential games. In any case, a huge month for Sackboy!Meet Your MakerPlayers gathering the Meet Your Maker trophies in the doom and gloom of other players' Saw-like traps manage to land the game in 16th place on it's PS Plus debut. Given that this game launched day and date with Sony's service, there is no player data before this date. Meet Your Maker would eventually drop to 34th in its third week as a PS Plus game, having dropped from 16th to 24th in the prior seven days.In the first week of May, it rested in the 82nd position of the top 200 most popular PS5 and PS4 games. From its debut on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023 until Sunday, May 7th, 2023, Meet Your Maker retained only 13.5% of its player count. For a multiplayer-dependent game, that is not ideal — and indeed, it retained less than March 2023 worst performing game, Code Vein (28.96% player retention). Given Lee enjoyed it in his first impressions, it looks like not everyone agrees. Tails of IronTails of IronWe loved collecting the Tails of Iron trophies when we ran through it, though we did see that it wasn't everyone's cup of tea in the comments sections. Sitting in 23rd place on the most popular PS5 and PS4 games chart in the first week of April, the player count was about as expected for the smallest indie game of the PS Plus games. Like Meet Your Maker, Tails of Iron had not debuted in the top 40 games in the chart since its release in 2021.That changed over the course of April, though, as it dropped from 23rd to 29th in week two, to 45th in week three, and finally to 56th by the time April came to an end. This is generally the expected course for an indie game that is single-player. In the first week of May, things look promising as Tails of Iron has retained 20.1% of its player count since its debut on PS Plus. This means players are still interested in the wonderful little platformer action game; certainly, more so than Meet Your Maker. So, Sackboy took the crown in the best PS Plus games last month, as well as the highest player retention! Does this surprise you? We suspect not since many of you had clearly been waiting for that mysterious beady-eyed freak to pop on Plus or be cheap enough to warrant a purchase.
