Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is still swinging for a 2023 release date on PS5

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is reportedly still swinging for a late 2023 release date according to Sony's latest financial calls.

We cannot wait to start collecting Marvel's Spider-Man 2 trophies later this year, but — having heard nothing about the game for a long time — we've all been wondering where on earth it is. Well, Sony has now stated that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is still slated for 2023 to keep all those who gave Marvel's Spider-Man review on tenterhooks.

Marvel's Spider-Man set to save PlayStation Studios' 2023 PS5 output

Speaking about the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release date as part of Sony's Financial Results , Sony stated: "We are also planning to release a major title, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, this fiscal year, and we aim to continue creating new IP, rolling out catalog titles for PC and strengthening live game service development." It is widely expected that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will release on PS5 in September 2023 after Venom's voice actor Tony Todd leaked information about the marketing schedule.

Indeed, while it is nice to have reassurance about Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the more interesting part of the Sony statement will likely be that more new IP is coming. For a while now, PlayStation fans have been enjoying sequels to the best PS4 games. However, very few new IP outside of Returnal (2021) from Housemarque have been present in PlayStation Studios' output. Instead, we were been treated to Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, and God of War Ragnarok across 2022.

The second half of the Sony statement, that we can expect more live-service games, has been on the cards for a long time. We know that there are at least 10 live-service games in development in coordination with Sony, of which Horizon co-op and The Last of Us' new multiplayer games are expected to play a huge part. Of course, they won't be to everyone's taste, so here is hoping the new IPs retain the single-player love-in PlayStation Studios are so good at providing.

Are you looking forward to Marvel's Spider-Man 2? What did you think of Miles Morales? Get in the comments to let us know and I'm sure that Lee or I will find you in there!
