Ray's the Dead Funded, Coming to PS4 and Vita

By Brandon Fusco,
Rays The Dead, one of the Indie 9 games shown on Sony's stage at E3 2013, has been funded on Kickstarter and will be coming to Vita in addition to the previously announced PS4 version. It has surpassed its goal of $30,000 with 18 days left, but there are quite a few stretch goals set for those still interested in contributing.

Ray’s the Dead is an action-adventure game that lets you play the life and afterlife of Ray LaMorte. Through dual narrative storytelling and over-the-top action, you’ll unravel the secrets behind Ray's death, and the mysterious device lodged into his brain.

Gameplay will revolve around the use of the device lodged in Ray's head, which allows Ray to bring enemies back from the dead and control them. Throughout the game, you'll engage in fast paced combat in a manner not unlike Pikman. Defeated enemies can be turned into undead minions for use in combat or to help you solve puzzles and make your way in the world.

New power in hand, Ray charges forward, battling the conflict in his heart - zombie instincts do not mix well with a sentient mind! Guided by unlikely alliances and vivid flashbacks that reveal memories of his past, Ray unknowingly sets off on a fantastical quest to find his place in the world.

The flashbacks triggered throughout the game will serve a dual purpose as both a story telling device and a method of unlocking new abilities for Ray. The flashbacks will be fully playable and reflect on a moment of Ray's life relevant to the situation he is in. Once the flashback is finished, you'll return to the present wiser on his past and more able to deal with the challenges ahead.

Ragtag Studios, the team working on Ray's the Dead, is quite small, consisting of only three people, so they are leaving their release window open to 2015. They are aiming to have the game ready for spring of 2015 for PS4 and Vita. The game will feature cross-buy and potentially a second screen experience if it makes the $55,000 stretch goal.
