Ridge Racer Type 4 trophies would be the greatest, please Bandai Namco

Opinion by Lee Brady,

Ridge Racer Type 4, the classic PS1 game, will be joining PS Plus Premium — now if only Bandai Namco would add trophy support.

The new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for March 2023 reveal included some truly excellent news: the PS1 classic Ridge Racer Type 4 is coming to PS Plus Premium this month. Now if only we could convince the game's publisher, Bandai Namco, to add games like Ridge Racer and Tekken 2 to the growing list of PS1, PS2, and PSP games with trophy support.

Bandai Namco PS Plus classics don't support trophies

Bandai Namco has been one of the biggest third-party supporters of the growing library of retro PlayStation PS Plus games, with a total of 4 classic PS1 games lined up for the service: Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 2, Ridge Racer 2, and Mr Driller. The only problem is that none of Bandai Namco's PS Plus Premium games feature trophy support.

Ever since Sony's first-party studios started retroactively adding trophies to PS Plus Premium games, we have desperately craved trophies for the classic PS1 games and PSP games offered by Bandai Namco. Up until now, we've tried to play it cool — we could argue that Tekken has superior versions with trophy support, and those Mr Driller DrillLand trophies are as much a good time as any PS1 list.

Ridge Racer 2Unlocking the platinum after unlocking the Pac-Man car? It has to happen.

However, the prospect of Ridge Racer Type 4 trophies absolutely called our bluff. Not only are there not a lot of Ridge Racer games with trophy support in general, so there's no easy fix for disappointed fans, but Ridge Racer Type 4 is easily the most iconic and beloved entry in the series. Bandai Namco, we beg you — it was bearable playing your other retro games without trophies, but the notion that we are mere inches from getting a Ridge Racer Type 4 with trophy support is enough to drive retro PlayStation fans crazy.

We're not expecting R4 trophy support on day one or anything, but if you could get around to this, we promise to stop badgering you for a Ridge Racer V PS Plus Premium port for at least a couple of weeks. You could make it one of the easiest platinum trophies on PS Plus and we wouldn't even be disappointed, honestly. If someone in the comments wouldn't mind passing this article onto their nearest Bandai Namco representative, that would be much appreciated.
