Exoprimal release date revealed as Xbox deal likely rules PS Plus out

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

The live-service dinosaur shooter Exoprimal from Capcom now has a release date for PS5, but it looks like a day-one Xbox Game Pass deal has ruled out PS Plus inclusion.

If the Exoprimal trophies have the same fun tone as the spectacular trailers so far, we are in for a great time shooting dinosaurs. In a new trailer, Capcom has revealed the Exoprimal release date and a day one Xbox Game Pass release.

When is Exoprimal releasing on PS5?

Capcom has announced that the Exoprimal's release date is July 17th for PS5 and PS4. There will be a beta prior to launch, from March 17th to March 19th, 2023, which will be cross-platform so PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One players can all get in on the dinosaur shooting action. This is a live-service cooperative dinosaur shooting game with a tone that screams wonderfully camp as dinosaurs come marching through the streets having fallen out of black holes. Dino Crisis this is not, but we don't know what to tell you — we are into this dino mayhem anyway!

The second part of this news is that this will probably not be featuring in our best PS Plus games list for at least a year. Capcom has signed a deal with Microsoft that will bring Exoprimal to Xbox Game Pass on day one — great news if you also have an Xbox console. Typically, though, Microsoft's deals for day one exclusives have been for a year, so we don't expect that PS Plus will see it until July 17th, 2024. That being said, we don't know the specifics and it could be shorter, it's just unlikely.

In any case, as we discussed in an article about Back 4 Blood ending live-service support, PS Plus is inundated with games that promise constant content but have, typically, failed to find footing in the normal market. That's not to say games like Marvel's Avengers, Knockout City, and Hood Outlaws and Thieves are bad, but they do have a habit of finding themselves stuck on the digital PS Plus Essential and Extra shelves every month. Mind you, games like Rocket League, Fall Guys, and Deep Rock Galactic have had major success on the service, so perhaps a game like Exoprimal might have enough good juice to make something big happen on an Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus.

Anyway, look at us rabbiting on again about PS Plus and live services. Let us know if you are looking forward to Exoprimal! Do you wish it was Dino Crisis? How are you feeling about the new trailer? Let us know all in the comments below, but don't forget to check out the best FPS games!
