Why is the ‘hours played’ feature on PS5 so wrong all of the time? By Sean Lawson, 08 Mar 2023 FollowtopicsPlayStation 5PlayStation 4Sean Lawson The "hours played" feature on PS5 and PS4 appears to be terribly inaccurate and leaves us wanting a fix from Sony, pronto. The PS5 is an incredible piece of kit that allows us to play some of the best PS5 games out there. A new firmware update for PlayStation — that also includes the PS5 Discord update — brings a plethora of new features to the PS5, including easier access to your hours-played data. . Sadly, these times are frequently wildly inaccurate. Why Sony? Why do you give us these inaccuracies? Look how you are making Lara Croft feel!Hours-played on PS5 is terribly inaccurate and we want a fixInaccurate hours-played data has been a problem for quite some time, you can see many players discussing this issue all over the internet. However, with the new PS5 update, your time-played data is now more prominently featured on the Game Hub page, meaning this issue is more prominent than ever. Come on Sony, you can fix this. We believe in you!The hours-played inconsistency can make it look like you have played games for many more hours than you actually have. On the reverse end, you could have earned yourself a platinum trophy that took a nice chunk of time only to be told that you played for less than an hour. So, something is clearly wrong with how hours-played is tracked in our games on a system level. You can see the inconsistencies in the images down below. I have been snatching up the Cyberpunk 2077 trophies for over 92 hours at this point (which can be seen on the in-game save file); however, according to the data Sony has pulled from who-knows-where I have only been playing the game for 75 hours. That's 17 hours of unaccounted game time that has just poofed into the air. Eventually, this will affect our PlayStation Wrap-Up for the end of the year — a to-be sad inaccuracy in one of our favourite events of the year.As you can see multiple games are affected here with no rhyme or reason which makes the issue almost impossible to pinpoint, besides it looking to be something on Sony's end. Sony hasn't said anything officially about this feature, so who knows if they are even aware it needs a fix. The Hogwarts Legacy time discrepancies aren't as major as Cyberpunk, but I still want the recognition of how long it took me to earn all of those Hogwarts Legacy trophies — the collectables will be the end of me, I swear. While this issue maybe isn't as bothersome as the likes of those unobtainable PS5 platinum trophies but it's still an annoyance we would love to see get cleared up. How do you feel on this matter? Have you also noticed the discrepancies with your hours-played like ourselves and many other users clearly have? Do you care? Or are you not fussed about the matter?
