Horizon and PS Plus games make a big splash on popular PS5 games chart

By Lee Brady,

Horizon Forbidden West leads the pack of PS Plus Extra and Premium games climbing this week's most popular PS5 and PS4 games chart.

The allure of Horizon Forbidden West trophies and all those new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for February 2023 have dramatically shifted this week's top 40 most popular PlayStation games chart, though it looks like nothing will unseat Call of Duty or Hogwarts any time soon. We scanned over 3 million active PSN accounts to build this table of results.

PS ChartHorizon and PS Plus climbing the PlayStation gameplay charts!

Last week was pretty busy in the world of PlayStation, which saw the launch of a whole new piece of PlayStation hardware — the PlayStation VR2. Tragically, despite an excellent array of PS VR2 launch games, the install base of the new VR headset isn't big enough yet to impact the charts in a major way. However, in a minor way, Gran Turismo 7 leapt from 19th to 15th in a week and even overtook Elden Ring for what must be the second time ever. You can probably chalk that bump up to the launch of PS VR2 bringing the game new attention.

The other big news in PlayStation — all the new PS Plus Extra and Premium games. Horizon Forbidden West shot up from 32nd place to 11th on account of its PS Plus Extra debut last week. PS Stars might have also played a small role in racking up those additional players, and we crafted a PlayStation Stars Horizon Forbidden West campaign guide for players looking to burn through that before the campaign ends.

The Legend of DragoonThe allure of that Legend of Dragoon platinum trophy is real.

A big surprise in all this was just how many players have been desperate for The Quarry trophies — the game not only entered the top 40 for the first time off the back of its PS Plus Extra debut, but it also jumped right up to the 26th spot. Borderlands 3 trophies also entered for the first time at 35th, The Legend of Dragoon trophies gave us a surprise PS1/PS Plus Premium appearance in the top 40 at 40th, and Tekken 7 re-entered the chart off the back of Extra at 31st.

As for the usual competitors, Hogwarts Legacy and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 continue to hold strong to their first and second spots, while Overwatch 2 continues to fall as fans get more and more restless with the state of the game. Following the latest PS Store sale, The Witcher 3 is once again back in the charts at 36th. And, presumably aided by all the PS5s selling alongside PS VR2, Astro's Playroom has gotten yet another boost up to 37th place.

Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed on PS4If you thought for one second we weren't going to post this image, you haven't been paying attention.

That does it on the analysis. What did you think? Let us know in the comments, and here are the most popular PS5 and PS4 games for the week ending February 26th, 2023.
