Star Wars Jedi Survivor chose "a true new-gen experience" over PS4 By Kes Eylers-Stephenson, 14 Feb 2023 FollowtopicsPlayStation 4PlayStation 5Kes Eylers-Stephenson Star Wars Jedi Survivor developers Respawn have clarified why the game is going PS5-only and abandoning PS4.The hunt across the galaxy for Star Wars Jedi Survivor trophies is about to begin as the release date approaches, but Jedi Survivor is PS5-only and willd abandon the PS4 for "a true new-gen experience."Jedi Survivor is only coming to the PS5Jedi Survivor is going PS5-only for a reasonRespawn is eyeing up a spot on the best PS5 games list for Star Wars Jedi Survivor when it releases on April 28th, 2023, but the PS4 will have to live without. Speaking to the PLAY magazine (via MP1st, game director Stig Asmussen clarified the PS5-only choice. "Bottom line, we learned quickly that we could take advantage of the faster processors, larger/faster memory, better loading times to create much larger maps, with more detail, greater density, broader enemy/NPC variety, and overall fidelity."These features aligned perfectly with how we wanted to push the game," Asmussen continues. "We didn’t want to break what we did in the first game because it was well received, but we wanted to evolve/enhance the experience. This new generation allowed us to do exactly that, and I believe it translates to a true new-gen experience in the Star Wars universe."Kal Kestis quite likeD the PS4, actuallyStar Wars Jedi Survivor is one of the first new breeds of third-party games abandoning old hardware, but it isn't the first EA game to do so. Anyone who has collected the Need for Speed Unbound trophies knows that game took advantage of being current-gen only, as did Dead Space more recently. WB Games have also been publishing the new-gen-only versions first, as anyone caught in the spell of Hogwarts Legacy trophies well knows. We think this push into the new-gen PS5 hardware makes sense now that stock issues are generally over. The PS4 certainly has the most extended generation ever, so it's nice to really feel like we are at the least transitioning. Do you agree? Are you gutted about the PS4 version?
