The Last of Us Part 3 being made with PS6 "in mind," claim soothsayers By Kes Eylers-Stephenson, 07 Feb 2023 FollowtopicsRumourPlayStation 5Kes Eylers-Stephenson We know that The Last of Us Part 3 story has an outline, but Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann previously stated the game wasn't in development. However, according to one site, that is not the case and the PS6 game is "in progress."The Last of Us Part I and the The Last of Us Part II are a part of the PS3, PS4, and PS5 family, but the next entry The Last of Us Part III is rumoured to be coming to the PS6.The Last of Us Part 3 for PS6?The Last of Us Part III will apparently use PS5 and PS6 hardwareWith both of these games ending up in best PS4 games and best PS3 games lists, it looks like we could be dead set for another best game coming to a new generation — just not the generation we're actually in. The Leak has reported that a new game is being actively developed. It should all be taken with a pinch of salt given the site states the authority for this information comes from the source of the PS5 Slim news — news that is yet to prove accurate."Our source at Sony has doubled down and revealed to us that [The Last of Us Part 3] is indeed in the works," reads the revealing paragraph. "At least, according to Sony. Internally, Sony has the title slated as 'in progress' with Naughty Dog as the developer with the game is categorised as a PlayStation 5 release with 'Playstation 6 in mind.'"The Last of Us Part 1 was a roaring success after the HBO show and The Last of Us Part IIThere seem to be a few things going on here. The first is that this is quite obviously plausible and likely, given that Druckmann in past interviews has stated that he's keen on making another game if the story is right. In addition, AAA development at Naughty Dog's level takes four/five years, which would naturally coincide with the PS6 launch in some way even if it has already been in development for a while. So, if it does happen, a PS6 game or an end-of-life PS5 title would make sense. We don't think it takes a soothsayer to align those dates or what Druckmann has previously said, but if the Sony source is saying it's in progress, then that's fun stuff too. It's that specific line at the end — that TLOU P3 is "categorised as a PlayStation 5 release with 'Playstation 6 in mind'" — that has us wondering. To us, that doesn't reflect a PS6 native release, but a PS5 release with a PS6 launch at some point. Is it possible we'd be looking at a The Last of Us Remastered situation? The original game launched on the PS3 in 2013 at the end of that console's life, before the Remastered release on PS4 arrived nigh on a year later in 2014. What The Leak is suggesting here appears to be the same kind of thing. Anyway, we thought we'd keep you in the loop on this and will let you know what is going on with the news as it develops. Let us know what you'd think of The Last of Us Part 3 in the comments, and whether PS6 is the right amount of time for it.
