Sony has ended the fiscal quarter with massive sales news for its two hot items: the PS5 console and God of War Ragnarok. Both have performed exceptionally well as stock held up over Christmas and Kratos' adventure hit big. Sony has a lot to thank God of War Ragnarok for this last fiscal period — both PS5 console and game sales have been massive since the latest God of War game released. Now, with a crazy level of quality amongst the best PS5 games and stock issues far behind them, Sony's success looks set to continue into the future. Sony reveals massive PS5 performance thanks to tentpole games in Q3 FY2022 Sony has published its Q3 FY2022 financial results to the public, revealing plenty of fun numbers (thanks VGC). Yes, that's right, numbers can be fun. The big takeaway is that the PS5 has sold another 7.1 million over the last quarter, pushing lifetime sales up to 32 million by December 31st, 2022. In addition, the document reveals that not only is the stock issue over, but the free flow of consoles has allowed a 34% increase year on year in console sales with the company on target to reach a new 19 million consoles sold annual target. The PS4, for comparison's sake, was at 38 million at this point in its lifetime. There are lots of other titbits we will write up at a later point, but the second major bit of Christmas period news revolves around game sales. Software sales have gone from 62.8 million in Q2 FY2022 to 86.5 million this quarter. However, compared to Q3 2021 — so the same Winter period last year — the software sales are down as the early Christmas period shows 92.7 million sales. Digital sales from the PS Store are sat at 62% for the current period as physical games sales slide. Importantly, first-party PlayStation Studios games are a massive driver of these sales numbers. Santa Monica Studio announced that God of War Ragnarok has sold 11 million copies — a huge number this early on. “None of this would be possible without the support of our fans, so thank you for coming on this journey with us!” The launch week sales were just over 5 million, so this is a game that carried the last quarter in its hand. We bet Sony is thanking Kartos and Atreus profusely. What do you think of the news? Let us know in the comments, and see you there!
