New PS Plus platinum opens floodgates for post-release PSP trophies

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

We just scanned the new trophies for the PS5 version of Super Stardust Portable. The PS Plus Premium PSP title is from the Classics Catalogue, but more importantly, it's the first time that trophies have been retroactively added.

We have just picked up the Super Stardust Portable trophies, which come with 17 bronze, silver, and gold trophies, and, of course, the platinum. This marks the first PlayStation Classic from the PS Plus Premium catalogue to have trophies added retroactively, meaning PS Plus trophy support is possible for any PS1 or PSP game after it has launched.

PS Plus Premium finally retrospectively adds trophies to classic games

The Super Stardust Portable trophies are easy and you will have no trouble with them, but the implications for PS Plus Premium players who enjoy hunting down trophies in classic games are massive. In a move that reminds us of when trophies were first introduced on PS3 and games were retroactively given trophies, like Uncharted Drake's Fortune, it looks like trophy support can be patched into a game at any point if the development team is willing.

As of yet, it is still only PlayStation Studios games from the PSP and PS1 era that have trophies in the Classic Catalogue. The only other PSP game with trophies is Pinball Heroes. LocoRoco still lacking trophies despite being on PSP and being developed by Japan Studio. This retroactive support is good news, given that any kind of trophy list for these older games is fun to dig into. However, it still feels like there is no rhyme or reason as to when games are added to Premium or with what kind of trophy support.

Hopefully, Super Stardust begins a bit of a trend with retroactive trophy support. Anyway, we have held you long enough! Here are the Super Stardust Portable trophies, enjoy!
