By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 continues its redemption tour. The Phantom Liberty expansion will be the recipient of a massive DLC budget, CD Projekt Red stated. The DLC is set to release on PS5 in 2023, let's see if it can do the biz.

For many of you, the Cyberpunk 2077 trophies have been wrapped up across PS5 and PS4. While the old generation has been left at the bottom of a nuked Arasaka tower, the PS5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 is set for further redemption with a massive DLC budget for the upcoming next-gen DLC Phantom Liberty. Could it be some of the best DLC on PlayStation?

Phantom Liberty DLC will be a massive CD Projekt investment

When this Cyberpunk 2077 DLC was announced as a PS5-only title, most let out a sigh of relief. The massive RPG was severely hampered by the PS4 technology constraints — a current-gen PS5 focus should help lighten the technical load when the DLC releases in 2023. Another freeing factor will be the budget CD Projekt has given the expansion, according to Polish outlet Parkiet. The initial quote comes translated from the Polish article.

"We asked the company when the add-on marketing campaign would start. 'We do not provide this information,' replied Marek Bugdoł from the investor relations department of CD Projekt. The release date is also unknown," reads the article. "'Yes, we feel comfortable with the current state of work on the add-on,' informs the representative of CD Projekt. He adds that it will be the biggest addition in the studio's history."

Then wccftech offered an update to this information after reporting on it. "CD Projekt Red reached out to us to clarify that Phantom Liberty will be the biggest expansion to date for the studio budget-wise."

Given that the publisher funded two of the best DLC packs ever in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt's underrated Hearts of Stone and superb Blood and Wine expansions, it sounds like Phantom Liberty is expected to at least match both expansions in terms of scale. This ambitious DLC plan should wrap up support for Cyberpunk 2077, which has risen in popularity after many patches and the immaculate Edgerunners anime on Netflix. Also, Phantom Liberty features Idris Elba and even more Keanu Reeves... that's all we really need, right?

Let us know your thoughts on how this big budget will translate to the scope of Phantom Liberty on PS5. Do you think Cyberpunk 2077 is now one of the best PS5 games? Let us know in the comments below, and see you there!
