PlayStation Stars sparks mysterious hunt for classic PS3 trophy

By Lee Brady,

The latest PlayStation Stars campaign has raised a mystery, and the solution might be connected to a classic PS3 trophy list. If you remember Sony's PlayStation Home, you might be able to solve this one.

A new addition to January's PlayStation Stars campaigns features a blast from the past: a PS Stars collectable that references PlayStation Home — Sony's ambitious and long-defunct attempt at an immersive social media hub. However, not all registered PlayStation Stars members can see the new campaign, and the suspected reason might be good news for anyone who owns those classic PS3 PlayStation Home trophies.

PlayStation Stars campaign might require short-lived PlayStation Home trophies

PlayStation Stars fans across the internet (like here on ResetEra) have been speculating over just what might cause the new PlayStation Home campaign to appear on their account, with early theories suggesting the campaign might be tethered to region. Sony, as per usual, has not been very transparent with fans over how its loyalty scheme works, thus the need for our PlayStation Stars guide to fill in some of the blanks, and a bunch of little mysteries like this forming every month over hidden collectables.

However, for this latest campaign, the solution seems to be connected to whether or not your PSN account has been used to purchase PlayStation Home DLC, or whether you earned one of the short-lived PlayStation Home trophies on your PS3. While PlayStation Home was originally active between December 2008 and April 2015, trophies were only added on March 12th, 2014 — meaning even master PS3 trophy hunters only had a year to log in and pick up one of these now exceedingly rare trophies.

PlayStation HomeWill we ever see PlayStation Home again?

If you were one of the lucky few to collect a PlayStation Home trophy, you owe it to yourself to grab this collectable on PS Stars before its campaign ends in February 2023. For the rest of us, it looks like its back to mining the rest of the best PS3 games list for trophies, just in case something equally rare pops up in the near future. Brag in the comments below if you were able to add this collectable to your PlayStation Stars collection.
