Gracious Atlus lets Persona 3 Portable fans stream 17-year-old game

By Lee Brady,

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden players on PS4 will be free to stream footage of the entire game at launch — a permission that developer Atlus did not permit for Persona 5 Royal players upon that game's 2022 re-release.

Persona 3 Portable may be a 14-year-old port of a 17-year-old game — that doesn't mean PS4 players could automatically assume they would be safe in streaming Persona 3's nearly 20-year-old ending. That decision comes down to Atlus, who graciously granted us lowly gaming peasants the right to stream the entirety of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden's story on PS4, if we so wish. Praise be our benevolent benefactor, Atlus.

Persona 3 and 4 remasters avoid Persona 5 Royal streaming problem

As reported by Persona Central, the media distribution guidelines for Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, two of the best PlayStation JRPGs of all time, will allow players to stream the entirety of the game's story so long as tags are used to warn viewers of potential spoilers. You might read this and think, 'well, that seems pretty standard, hardly worth fussing about' — to fans who opted for the PS5 re-release of Persona 5 Royal, however; Atlus' stance here looks downright generous.

Persona 5 Royal owners who wanted to stream the game leading up to its 2022 PS5 re-release were actively prohibited by Atlus, who attempted a bizarre crackdown on spoilers and footage for a game that had released three years earlier; six years earlier if we're counting the superior vanilla Persona 5 release. When P5R re-launched in 2022, players were also advised not to stream the game's ending missions and finale. How heavily enforced this ultimately was we can't say, but it seems the pushback was enough to have Atlus reconsider this time around.

Persona 3 Portable PS4Let's not forget the shock Persona 4 Golden fans must be experiencing right now.

So, bask in the sun and be free Persona 3 fans, for mighty King Atlus hath shone brightly upon thee this day. If you're too excited for two of the most promising upcoming PS5 and PS4 games of 2023, then we heartily recommend checking out or Persona series ranking to help find another game in the series to put in the wait with.
