Horizon co-op game confirmed as PS5 live-service barrage continues

By Lee Brady,

Guerrilla Games, developers of the Horizon series, have confirmed that an online co-op game set in Aloy's universe is in the works. The multiplayer game will form another key release in Sony's ambitious live-service plans.

Just a week after Horizon Burning Shores was announced at The Game Awards, we now have confirmation that Guerrilla Games is also working on a multiplayer Horizon game for PlayStation. The online cooperative title will be another entry in Sony's ongoing PlayStation Studios live-service games push and, if a previous leak is to be believed, it would seem this multiplayer Horizon game is coming to the PS5 and PC.

Live-service Horizon game confirmed with a new cast and ‘stylised look’

Confirmed in a tweet by Guerrilla Games, the new Horizon game will apparently feature "a new cast of characters and a unique stylised look." In a world where 'stylised' usually translates to either 'cheap chibi 2D animation' or 'Fortnite,' we'll dare to hope this is something more like how Ghost of Tsushima presented a stylised world.

The online Horizon game has been the subject of a number of rumours leading up to this confirmation — the foremost of which is the PlayStation games line-up leak for PS5 games. The leak came from a very dubious source, but has since been fairly accurate to date, and has this online Horizon game pinned down for a PS5 and PC release.

Horizon Forbidden West is one of the best PS5 games to hit the console so far, but we're excited to see where else Aloy — or characters tangentially related to Aloy — can take the series now that it's leaving the PS4 behind. Let us know if you're excited to try out a live-service take on the Horizon universe and what you think the cooperative play might bring to the series in the comments below.
