Before we dive into my top three games of 2022, I wanted to do a little shoutout to some of the incredible games I have played throughout this year that didn't quite make the cut — because Editor Kes wouldn't let me make a top 10 list. Boo, Kes!

Honourable mentions

First up from 2022 is an incredible and addictive simulator game called Arcade Paradise released his year that was so close to making the cut, but was sadly axed from the final cut at the finish line. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires was a surprise treat after the abysmal Dynasty Warriors 9 released a few years prior and crushed my entire being (still platinumed it though). Finally, I have to give a lot of praise to Bethesda's GhostWire Tokyo which blew me away with the horror, action, and all-around fun that it offered up to me. What a wonderful year it has been!

marvels midnight sunsMarvel Midnight Suns is the smash hit I was not expecting it to be!

Marvel's Midnight Suns — PS5

Marvel's Midnight Suns ended up being an incredibly last-minute and unexpected favourite of mine this year. As someone who doesn't usually gravitate towards tactical games, I was quite surprised by how welcoming this was for casual players of the genre — like me — and how addicted I found myself to the game. As soon I finished writing up the many articles you have no doubt read on TT, I would rush back to my PS5 and boot up Midnight Suns. It's very rare for me to get that hooked on a game like that — the last being Persona 4 Golden (one of the best PS Vita games).

The Marvel's Midnight Suns trophies are quite a fun romp. It's hard at the moment to tell if I am going to need a second playthrough or not to get the platinum trophy 'Big Game Hunter' which sits with a 0.1% completion rate on PSN. Normally, I would be against including a game I am yet to actually finish. However, with around 70 hours clocked into the game, I think it's safe to say I am invested enough to tell you it is superb and I'm enjoying everything the game has to offer. I literally can't put this game down once I start it up.

Stray is still raising money for animals in need!Stray is adorable, brilliant, and emotional.

Stray — PS5

I had the great pleasure of writing a Stray review ahead of its PS Plus debut and I can safely confirm that I was absolutely blown away and mesmerised by everything that Stray had to offer. Also, having an adorable kitty that you can make continuously meow is always going to score extra points with us at TT. Stray is a whimsical adventure game that is overflowing with charm, character, and a riveting story — if you are yet to check this game out, make sure you get on it a soon as pawsible.

The Stray trophies were also an absolute hoot to claw my way through and pouncing on the platinum trophy 'All Done' gave me a surge of dopamine. There were of course a couple of tricky trophies that stood in my way as I wandered through this dystopian landscape, with the main being 'Can't Cat-ch Me' that seemed a little too luck-based, in my opinion. However, I overcame the challenge and now join the 2.9% of PSN players who have claimed this platinum trophy.

Tiny Tina's WonderlandsTiny Tina's Wonderlands is one of the best co-op experiences in years.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands — PS5

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands was one of those titles that looked like a fun and exciting time, but was also a game I would never pick up myself as I had never played a single Borderlands game. I felt as though I would be out of the loop just diving into this incredible little adventure with no prior experience with the series. Thankfully my partner purchased this game for me on my birthday and we finally got around to playing it this November — and boy-oh-boy did we have an unexpected blast. Its cooky, over-the-top, and eccentric nature captured us immediately, with slick and stylish weapons that made us feel like "badasses." It was pure joy to play and is by far one of the highlights of 2022 for me.

The Tiny Tina's Wonderlands trophies are all fairly simple to earn. The majority are straightforward and pretty obvious. You'll net most of these by gradually finishing up the game, completing the various dungeons, and helping out with all the sidequests. The platinum trophy 'Bunker Master' shouldn't pose too much of an issue — apart from the golden trophy 'Mule Character' that can take hundreds of hours of to achieve. Thankfully, there is an exploit you can read about in this guide here that will save you many, many hours of grinding.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is beautifulKena: Bridge of Spirits is a wonderful beautiful game

Other gaming delights from years past
As for games of years past that I finally made it to: Kena Bridge of Spirits, a fun yet brutal platformer, was a highlight for me at the beginning of 2022 (it released late 2021) along with The Pathless (a launch PS5 game). An unexpected co-op delight came in the form of It Takes Two which also nearly entered into my top three games list, but was sadly edged out by its competitors and because it didn't release this year.

If it wasn't for these games not releasing in 2022, I actually think Kena might have been able to edge its way into my top three games. It has addictive combat, cute aesthetics, badass boss fights (that were brutally difficult), and an engaging story that I wanted to see through to the end. It was a marvel to play through and truly impressed me far more than I expected it to.

Final thoughts
Honestly, 2022 has been one hell of a good year for PlayStation owners, just take a look back at the many different games that were released, as well as all of those older games we finally got around to beating in the backlog. Here's to 2023 and hoping for an equally — if not better — year of gaming for PS5 and PS4 owners. We at TT can't wait to see everything it has in store for us and to see what titles may crop up on our best JRPG games list.

How did 2022 shape up for you? What were some of the highlights you experienced from the gaming world? Are there any PlayStation exclusives that blew you away? Let us know all the details down below!
