Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 hype infects the new Spider-Man movie

By Lee Brady,

Marvel's Spider-Man 2's impending 2023 PS5 release has left fans eager to see more of the upcoming Insomniac Games adventure — so eager, in fact, that they've managed to spy the game's heroes in the new Spider-Man movie trailer.

The heroes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, have been spotted in the debut trailer for Sony Pictures Animation's upcoming Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse. It looks like we'll see Marvel's Spider-Man 2's heroes in the new Spider-Verse movie before we get to play as them again, now that a recent trailer tease has leaked a late 2023 release window for the best PS5 games-hopeful.

Spotted over on Twitter, we can see a shot from Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse showing Insomniac Games' Peter Parker talking to Miles Morales — or so you might think that's Miles Morales, at least. As fans have noted online, not only is this Miles not wearing his PlayStation suit, but it might not be Miles at all if various internet theorists are to be endured, with theories ranging from Otto the Superior Spider-Man to Ben Reiley.

If you'd like to endure one such internet theorist, how's this then: seeing as fans can't seem to pin down a single reference that fits exactly, could it be the case that this is a yet-unrevealed costume from Marvel's Spider-Man 2? Both previous games in the series have our Spider-Men donning new suits somewhere in their stories, so it's not without precedent. Plus, with Sony Pictures Animation being a distant relative of PlayStation Studios, it's not impossible that a little easter egg for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was planted in Across the Spider-Verse ahead of time.

We are almost certainly dead wrong, but come on, look at those wrist shooters, they just don't quite match up with anybody! It actually definitely looks up close more like it's Spider-Girl, but let's not let facts get in the way of nonsense. Let us know in the comments if you abhor how ridiculous this has become, and let us know if you're hoping those multiplayer rumours for Spider-Man 2 come true — we'd love to add this one to our best co-op games on PlayStation list someday.
