Marvel's Spider-Man 2 wishlist page on PS Store live after absence

By Lee Brady,

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release window has seemingly leaked following the game's UK PS Store appearance and a tease from Insomniac Games. Fans eager to get their hands on the PS5 exclusive should get the chance in late 2023.

Update 2: Marvel's Spider-Man 2's wishlist page is now live again on the PlayStation Store after being delisted for a while, potentially hinting that a tease will be coming soon. However, there are no additional details on the page so, at the time of writing, all you can do is wishlist the game for PS5.

Update: A recent leak spotted on the website of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 writer Jamie Mayer may have revealed when fans can expect to get their hands on Insomniac Games' upcoming PS5 exclusive. According to Mayer's website (before being updated to remove the reference), Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will release for PS5 in Fall 2023 — presuming the writer's information was accurate and up-to-date.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 leak suggests Autumn 2023 release date

Spotted online and screenshotted by Spidey Squad founder Evan Filarca, Mayer's leak correlates with Insomniac Games' previous confirmation of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's release window in 2023. This third Spider-Man 2 tease in just a few days suggests once more that something is brewing behind the scenes, though hopefully Insomniac is planning to share more than just a release window, like a new Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer — otherwise, Mayer may have just beat them to the punch.

Let us know in the comments if you're thrilled or disappointed with the release window tease here, and whether you think the rumoured Marvel's Spider-Man 2's multiplayer mode will make it instantly one of the best co-op games on PlayStation.

Original Story: Two recent Marvel's Spider-Man 2 teases have raised fan anticipation for a new gameplay trailer reveal, as recent activity from both Sony and Insomniac Games suggests there's movement on the title happening behind the scenes. A recent GIF posted by Insomniac Games' community manager has garnered fan attention for its peculiar timing, and an even more recent Marvel's Spider-Man 2 appearance on the PS Store — before being promptly pulled — has raised the expectation for fresh news considerably.

Insomniac and Sony tease fresh Marvel's Spider-Man 2 reveal

On December 10th 2022, Insomniac Games community manager James Stevenson uploaded a fairly innocuous Spider-Man 2 GIF to Twitter. The image was taken from the 2021 Spider-Man 2 reveal trailer, showing a brief glimpse of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales side-by-side, but the interesting detail is the timing of Stevenson's tweet. Fans who tuned into The Game Awards on December 8th might have expected Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to make an appearance at the event, though the only first-party Sony reveal during the ceremony was for the newly announced Horizon Burning Shores DLC.

For Stevenson to post a GIF only a couple of days after the event would, understandably, feel like a response to the game's absence. Marvel's Spider-Man 2's release window was confirmed for later in 2023, so no doubt Insomniac are aware even the slimmest reference to the impending PS5 exclusive on social media will blow up. Fan expectation skyrocketed in response to the tweet, and would remain consistently high when just two days later Spider-Man 2 suddenly appeared on the PS Store.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailerSpeculation abound.

As spotted by various sources such as PlayStation Game Size, the PS Store wishlist page for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 went live in the UK, staying live for a few hours before Sony pulled it. Again, it's all about timing here — the game's store page going live just as Insomniac staff begin to tease the game online can't help but signal to fans that something is happening with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Since its initial announcement, fans have only heard rather dubiously sourced snippets of news regarding the game, like the Spider-Man 2 co-op leak or the hilarious Venom details from voice actor Tony Todd.

While a wishlist page for an already-announced game should be a rather expected addition to the PS Store, Sony's making the page private also feeds fan speculation that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is due a reveal in the very near future. The obvious expectation is for the first Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer to finally be revealed — with the game set for release later this year, it would be good to finally get a look at it in action. Whether that trailer comes with a release date reveal is anyone's guess, though given the PS Store page was just for adding the title to your wishlist and not preordered, we suspect that's a reveal for a later announcement.

Let us know if your hopes are still high for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to be one of the best PS5 games around when it launches in 2023, and whether you agree or disagree with our above assessment, down in the comments below.
