Stray claws past PlayStation Studios games to Golden Joysticks victory

By Sean Lawson,

Stray has clawed, swiped, and dominated over its competitors at the Golden Joystick Awards 2022, to take home the title PlayStation Game of the Year. Stray beat out the likes of TLOU Part 1, Horizon Forbidden West, Sifu, and GT7.

The Golden Joystick Awards 2022 has come to a close, with all of the winners announced for each of the categories. PlayStation Studios title Horizon Forbidden West took home the award for 'Best Storytelling' while Elden Ring was crowned 'Ultimate Game of the Year.' However, it was the PS Plus indie smash hit Stray that snatched up the title of best PlayStation Game of the Year.

Stray beats out Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, and Gran Turismo 7

Announced on Twitter through the Golden Joysticks official account, Stray, the adorable cat game that captured many hearts — including my own, which can be seen in my Stray review — and inspired a cat-crazed social media meltdown, has clawed its way to the top and earned itself the title of 'PlayStation Game of the Year.'

What is most impressive is that Stray actually beat out some really strong contenders such as previously mentioned titles Horizon and Elden Ring, as well as Sifu, The Last of Us Part 1, and Gran Turismo 7. While obviously not quite the same as the Game Awards 2022, this does go to prove that there is a chance Stray might be able to do the unthinkable and earn the title of Game of the Year over both Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok this year.
