Marvel's Spider-Man 2 swaps the face of another main character

By Sean Lawson,

PS5 title Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to recast Harry Osborne as the studio is looking for someone more "photo real" than previous voice actor Scott Porter. This is now the second main character to receive a facelift in the game.

PS5 title Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will recast the character of Harry Osborn, who was played by Scott Porter in the original Marvel's Spider-Man. Porter suggested the reason for this change was because Insomniac Games was looking for something more "photo-real." Porter is a renowned voice actor, with one of his most recent and notable roles coming in the form of Heimdall from God of War Ragnarok — the second-best PS5 game at present. It's looking like Harry Osborn will be getting a facelift in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Spotted by PushSquare, some now deleted tweets from Porter have surfaced on Reddit that reveal the actor explaining his departure from the highly decorated series. Commenting back to someone who seemed excited about Porter returning to the role of Harry Osborn, Porter quickly yet politely smothered their hopes, informing them that this was not actually going to be the case.

Porter's now-deleted tweet read as follows: "While I voiced Harry [Osborn] in the first Spider-Man I unfortunately will be in the sequel. They decided to go photo real and the difference between me and Harry's ages was too much to overcome I believe. I was bummed but I get to. Gonna be an incredible game.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2Marvel's Spider-Man 2 still has us hyped none-the-less

While a sad time that Porter won't be returning to the series — especially given Harry Osborn's rumoured involvement in the next title — it's nice to see Porter still supporting the game and showing no ill will to anyone for this unfortunate departure. This isn't the first time a character will see a change in their appearance, as in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Peter Parker had a drastic change to his face — a completely new one, in fact — that was criticised by many fans of the original game.

What do you think of this development? Upset to see Porter leave? Or are you not that fussed? We believe that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will make it onto our best PS5 games list, just like Marvel's Spider-Man made it onto our best PS4 games list, but what do you think?
