PlayStation Tournaments PS5 beta has started rolling out across the US

By Sean Lawson,

Sony has begun to roll out the PlayStation Tournaments beta for PS5 users in the US allowing for a far more streamlined user experience when it comes to competitive play.

The PlayStation Tournaments beta program for PS5 is getting underway in the US. With Sony acquiring EVO last year, this feature looks as though it could complement the renowned fighting competition. The beta is kicking off with Guilty Gear -Strive- and will allow players to provide feedback on the feature and point out any improvements that could be made.

This new PS5 feature will provide a streamlined competitive experience

Posted onto the official PlayStation website, the article outlines a variety of improvements that PlayStation Tournaments is hoping to bring to the competitive fighting scene. Sony is hoping to provide: "shorter tournament times, seamless on-console sign-ups, easily discoverable tournaments, an all-new UI, real-time match updates, frictionless online competitive play, real-time reporting, bracket capping for shorter tournament lengths, chances to win exciting prizes, and other improvements that address barriers commonly encountered in online competitive play."

The beta will expand outside of the US in the coming months and will feature more titles than just the recent entry in the Guilty Gear series — though, given our Guilty Gear -Strive- review, it's clear we don't mind this pick that much! Right now to be eligible to take part in this beta, players will need to be a resident of the US, have access to a PS5, have access to a PS5 copy of Guilty Gear Strive, have a PS Plus membership, and have an internet contention.

The article then goes on to showcase how you participate in the beta, showing off a variety of images that show what the PlayStation Tournament will look like. Players who enter the beta will gain a limited-time reward — a unique PlayStation Tournaments beta avatar. Once the beta finishes up and the feature is rolled out around the world, players can expect to earn even more prizes, including cash. Playing our favourite fighting games and earning cash for it?
