Popular PlayStation Games — September 19th, 2022

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

PlayStation's most popular games for the week contain no new games, but it does show that Cyberpunk 2077 is starting to find footing again. Meanwhile, PS Plus games like Need for Speed have dropped down but TLOU fluctuates.

PlayStation gamers are playing the normal selection of Fortnite, Call of Duty, and FIFA 22 this week, but it is the return of Cyberpunk 2077 that has caught the eye. Likewise, it is clear that the PS Plus games for September haven't really made a massive mark.

Cyberpunk 2077Cyberpunk 2077is back in the big leagues

So, let's talk a little about Cyberpunk 2077's rise by seven places to 15th, shall we? The bare numbers are as follows. Week-on-week the total player count has increased by 22% with a 3:1 ratio of players on PS5. This suggests that the impending sunsetting of Cyberpunk 2077 DLC for PS4 is probably well calculated, but also a step that might allow the game to keep climbing the rankings here when the next DLC does drop. CD Projekt is funding stride again, but we still await The Witcher 3 port for PS5!

PlayStation Plus Essential games came, saw, and mostly faded rapidly. Players are still trying for those Need for Speed Heat trophies, but it still drops one place to ninth. That isn't terrible at all, but the September 2022 games aren't finding footing elsewhere. Granblue Fantasy Versus has dropped a massive 15 places to 35th and Toem comes in at 40th, otherwise known as last place. Two great games, but its a shame to see such a rapid fall.

The Last of Us Part I is fairing well, still holding onto 12th despite a disappointing start and drop. However, that has seen a boost to The Last of Us Part II, which now stands in 38th with a re-entry. It's an interesting dynamic that we have seen before for games in certain series, like Horizon and God of War, but it's nice to see one of the best PS4 games get some time in the sun. Warframe, likewise, gets a re-entry as it tends to do.

That is it for the week! Let us know what you think in the comments. Here are the most popular PlayStation games for the week ending September 18th, 2022.
