Popular PlayStation Games — August 30th, 2022

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,

While MultiVersus can't maintain its crown, Fall Guys manages to once again win the race to the top 3 most popular PlayStation games. The other PS Plus contenders have slipped away while we wait for new games.

MultiVersus has been supplanted at the top of the most popular PlayStation games by Fall Guys, though both lose out to the mighty FIFA 22 and Fortnite. Meanwhile, the PS Plus Extra, Premium games for August 2022 have entered the fray with surprising results.

At the top of the table, we have MultiVersus dropping from third place to seventh. The fun brawler's achievements so far have been mighty, but maintaining the top spots is hard work — as proven by a 31% decrease in the total player count since last week. That means nearly a third of players have dropped the game this week, suggesting that you need more than tough MultiVersus trophies to keep a game going strong.

If you want a good example of this, look no further than Fall Guys. It is up to third, a one place increase on last week but more than enough to replace MultiVersus. In the ten weeks since the new launcher was released, it has made the chart every time thanks to continued events and costumes and despite a 9% decrease in player numbers this week. If MultiVersus has that stickiness through thick and thin, it could be a new top ten mainstay. Alternately, it could fumble around the edges of the ten like Genshin Impact, which has made a massive progression this week from 13th to 9th.

Genshin ImpactGenshin Impact makes a splash once again!

The PS Plus games for August have landed, with both Uno (36th) and Ghost Recon Wildlands (34th) making a debut. However, despite the Extra games having succeeded in the past, it looks like it isn't tempting many as the pair debut at the lower end of the table. If we ask ourselves why this is, it's probably simply because it was a weak lineup this month despite the bonus games on the service.

Well, here our analysis ends! So, without further ado, here are the top 40 popular PlayStation games for the week ending August 30th, 2022.
