Devil May Cry producer leaves Capcom for Diablo Immortal devs

By Lee Brady,

Devil May Cry and Dino Crisis producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi has joined Diablo Immortal co-developer NetEase, leaving his role in Capcom behind after 27 years at the company.

Hiroyuki Kobayashi has left Capcom during the development of Exoprimal, an upcoming PS4 and PS5 game that many were excited to play thanks to its having the Dino Crisis producer aboard. Kobayashi originally cut his teeth as a programmer on the PS1 classic Resident Evil — recently made available via PS Plus Premium — before producing games in the Dino Crisis series, the first Devil May Cry, and Devil May Cry 4.

Dino Crisis producer leaves Exoprimal to work with Diablo Immortal devs

Kobayashi's more recent credits see him attached to games like Resident Evil 6, Mega Man 11, and the Sengoku Basara series before he announced on Twitter his involvement in Capcom's upcoming dino shooter, Exoprimal. Now, Kobayashi has announced via Twitter that he would be leaving the game's development and his position at Capcom to work as a producer at NetEase Games, the co-developers behind Blizzard Entertainment's most diabolical entry into the Diablo series yet, Diablo Immortal, as well as popular PS5 free-to-play game Naruka Bladepoint.

Unless it gets delayed, Exoprimal will hit PS5 and PS4 in 2023, and here's hoping we can still make out the fingerprints of one of Dino Crisis' original visionaries. We recently recovering from the difficulty of those Devil May Cry platinum trophies, so we're sure Kobayashi's has plenty of fiendishly challenging ideas to work out over at NetEase.
